Hyderabad: The Langer Houz Lake filled with garbage, weed and water hyacinth. Once clean and free of pollution, the Lake is now a cesspool, slowly turning to a garbage landfill with tons of garbage in it.
A beautification project was taken by the officials and area MLA, 14 years ago, promising that this water body is provided with a sewage treatment plant and a park. However, there is no progress in work seen at the moment, as water hyacinth covers a major portion of the lake, becoming breeding ground for mosquitoes.
The Langer Houz Lake is spread over 40 acres and use to be a water source to the entire Karwan. Commuters and residents of Golconda at risk as they were greeted by foam flying off the Langer Houz Lake every monsoon. This foam leaves stinking smell containing chemicals in it which is causing health issues in the area.
Residents alleged that lake is filled with all kinds of wastage and sewage inflow channels in it poising air and water. Every monsoon the lake is deteriorating, despite repeatedly complaining about the degradation of the Lake ‘No action’ by the civic body and the local leaders.
Madhulika Choudhary a Green Activist who started an NGO Dhruvansh that works on conserving water bodies and the environment is coordinating with the volunteers, who had earlier cleaned and restored the Neknampur Lake and the Yerrakunta lake in Shaikpet.
