Hyderabad: Aimed at providing better quality of roads, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has come up with a Comprehensive Road Maintenance (CRM) programme for the city.
MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao held a review meeting along with Mayor Bonthu Ram Mohan at the Secretariat on Monday, where KTR spoke about the CRM programme and its significance. Earlier, laying of new roads, identifying damaged roads, filling of potholes, medians, pavements, making estimations and allocation of works were taken care of by different wings of the GHMC, which led to coordination challenges.
To address these challenges, the GHMC has initiated the Comprehensive Road Maintenance programme, under which a total of 709 km of Hyderabad roads will be maintained. The main roads of Hyderabad city will be divided into eight units, for which maintenance works will be taken up on a warfooting. Road maintenance tenders for a term of five years will be called by the GHMC from works agencies.
The contracted agency will be responsible for complete maintenance of the roads, from laying of roads to maintenance, from building footpaths to cleaning and maintenance of greenery. The agencies will also take up the necessary digging and relaying works, for which they will need to take permissions from HMWSSB and TRANSCO departments six months in advance.
This will improve road infrastructure maintenance and work standards. Constant monitoring of the quality of works done by agencies would be taken up by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. MA&UD Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar, GHMC Commissioner Lokesh Kumar, Joint Commissioners, and engineering staff participated in the meeting Tags CRM launched Hyderabad GHMC news smooth roads
