Hyderabad: The Telangana State Taxi and Drivers Associations’ JAC on Thursday announced that 50,000 Ola, Uber and IT companies’ cab drivers will launch an indefinite strike on October 19.
The cabbies have called the strike in support of their list of six demands given on August 8th to the Transport Ministry as well as Uber, Ola and IT sector companies.
House and preventive arrests Late on Friday night the police were reportedly preparing to make house arrests of prominent per- sons and take several other people into preventive cus- tody for obviating major trouble on Saturday. Besides, special police forces have been deployed at bus stations and depots to protect RTC’s assets.
The drivers are seeking better living and work conditions by pegging the minimum fare at Rs 22 per kilometre. They claim that they are being exploited by cab aggregators as they are being paid a maximum Rs 14 per km even during periods involving surge pricing.
JAC said that a tab should be kept on the number of cabs attached to aggregator marketplaces in order to guarantee minimum business to all drivers.
