Patiala, Oct 25 : Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Sunday expressed satisfaction that his government has been able to expedite the challan in the six-year-old child rape-murder case in Hoshiarpur and the challan will be presented in the court this week.
Challan is a document in which an official claim is made by the police that somebody has committed a crime.
In sharp contrast to the Uttar Pradesh government’s response to the Hathras horror, he asserted that his government had taken swift action in the Hoshiarpur incident. He said prompt action had been taken by the Punjab Police and the accused were caught without delay, unlike in Hathras.
That was why Rahul Gandhi had to rush to Hathras, to secure justice for the victim’s family, and did not need to visit Hoshiarpur, he added, while interacting informally with the media here.
Asked to comment on Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s remarks on ‘selective outrage’, he reiterated that had the Punjab government or police failed to respond with swiftness in the Hoshiarpur case, Rahul, Priyanka Gandhi and others would have reacted the same way as they did in the case of Hathras.
He pointed out that he already commented on Sitharaman’s statement on Saturday in detail.
