Washington, Jan 26 : The total number of global coronavirus cases has topped 99.6 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 2.13 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
In its latest update on Tuesday morning, the University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and death toll stood at 99,660,483 and 2,138,299, respectively.
The US is the worst-hit country with the world’s highest number of cases and deaths at 25,261,902 and 420,873, respectively, according to the CSSE.
India comes in second place in terms of cases at 10,667,736, while the country’s death toll soared to 153,470.
The other countries with more than a million confirmed cases are Brazil (8,871,393), Russia (3,698,246), the UK (3,680,101), France (3,116,355), Spain (2,593,382), Italy (2,475,372), Turkey (2,435,247), Germany (2,154,656), Colombia (2,027,746), Argentina (1,874,801), Mexico (1,763,219), Poland (1,478,119), South Africa (1,417,537), Iran (1,379,286), Ukraine (1,234,772) and Peru (1,093,938), the CSSE figures showed.
Brazil currently accounts for the second highest number of fatalities at 217,664.
