New Delhi: With the monsoon expected to reach the national capital this weekend, rains began on Thursday and are expected to continue for the next two days thanks to moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal, weather officials said.
Light to heavy rain is likely in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab from Thursday night, as per the weather agencies.
Parts of Delhi witnessed scattered drizzles on Thursday with Aya Nagar recording 10.1 mm of precipitation, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Areas such as Gurugram and Faridabad also received moderate rains on Thursday.
Subsequently, the mercury fell to 29 degrees Celsius on Thursday afternoon. However, the maximum temperature touched 38.4 degrees. On Friday, the mercury is expected to hover between 27-35 degrees Celsius.
IMD chief K.J. Ramesh told IANS: “We expect monsoon to come to Delhi in the next two-three days, around Sunday.”
