Sakina Fatima Hyderabad : The Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited on Monday advised the residents living in multi-storied buildings or houses to move their electricity meters to the upper floors.
As the heavy rain lashed the city, several buildings experienced power-loss for over 24 hours. This is because thousands of electricity meters which were located in the cellar or ground floor, were flooded following the rain-water inundation.
“After the worst flood-hit in Hafeezbaba Nagar, it resulted in the uprooting of electricity poles and several electricity transformers getting washed away,” said G. Raghuma Reddy, TSSPDCL chairman and managing director, on his inspection. In Hafeezbaba Nagar 42 electric poles and 20 distribution transformers were damaged, whereas in Nadeem Colony, 22 poles and seven transformers were damaged.
The officials, thus, advised the residents of such buildings to move the electricity meters to the first or second floors, to prevent from them getting inundated or washed away again.
Current estimates of damage to electricity infrastructure are around Rs. 2 crores, the chairman said. The TSSPDCL has sent 6,000 personnel for repairs and restoration of power supply in the city. He also urged consumers not to pay for the repair works.
