Maharashtra: 40 % elected MLAs declare serious criminal cases

New Delhi: Of 113 newly-elected MLAs to the legislative assembly of Maharashtra, 40 percent of these MLAs have declared serious criminal cases like murder, etc registered against them, an analysis of their self-sworn affidavits revealed.
The analysis by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) which has studied the filed affidavits of 285 of a total 288 MLAs revealed at least 176 MLAs have declared serious criminal cases registered against them while the remaining affidavits could not be analysed due to unavailability of affidavits, News18 reports .
The affidavits state two MLAs have declared cases related to murder, 11 MLAs have declared cases related to attempt to murder while 4 MLAs have declared cases related to kidnapping (IPC Section 363) which includes one MLA each from Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and an Independent.
BJP party’s 40 MLAs of the total 105, 26 of the 55 elected MLAs of Shiv Sena, 17 of the 53 MLAs from NCP, 15 of the MLAs from Congress, and six of the 12 Independents have declared serious criminal cases registered against them.
Adding to the criminal records, 93 percent or 264 of a total 285 newly elected MLAs in the Maharashtra Assembly are Crorepatis of which 100 of the 105 MLAs belong to the BJP party, 51 of the 55 MLAs belong to Shiv Sena, 47 of the 53 MLAs belong to NCP and 42 of the 44  belong to Congress according to the latest analysis report.
Saffron party’s average assets are Rs 27.46 crore, while Shiv Sena’s average assets are Rs 13.74 crore followed by NCP and Congress who have average assets of Rs 15.01 crore and Rs 24.46 crores.
