On June 18, AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi took oath as an MP from Hyderabad constituency in the 17th Lok Sabha. The leader was greeted with chants of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’, ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Vande Mataram’ when his name was called upon during the ceremony. Owaisi responded to the sloganeering at the end of his oath with chants of ‘Jai Bheem’, ‘Jai Meem’, ‘Takbir Allahu Akbar’ and ‘Jai Hind’. A video of the said event can be watched below: Several media organisations reported the oath-taking ceremony, however, with misleading and clickbait headlines. While the articles mentioned each of the chants raised in the Lok Sabha and Owaisi’s complete response to the sloganeering, the titles only drew a parallel between ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Allahu Akbar’.
ANI “Owaisi replies ‘Allahu Akbar’ as MPs chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ in Lok Sabha,” is the title of the report by ANI.
